On the train ride home today, I got to thinking about my two biggest fictional crushes of the moment: Steve Rogers and Alistair Theirin.
- Both are good-hearted men with a strong moral code that sometimes gets them in trouble.
- Both submitted themselves to a dangerous procedure (/ritual) that increased their strength and stamina, and allowed them to better serve their homelands.
- Both are awkward with women (and totally adorable about it); both are sexually inexperienced, particularly in comparison with other men of their age in their respective cultures.
- Both classically handsome and very well toned.
- Both fall in love with a comrade-in-arms (at least in my usual headcanons for Alistair), with (the potential for) tragic results.
- Both are willing to sacrifice themselves to save the day, even when they have every reason in the world to live.
Maybe this comparison falls apart when stretched too far, but still, I see the parallels. Anyone else?
Oh, I didn’t think about the ritual/procedure as such. And I still haven’t seen Captain America or The Avengers, but when I started seeing the CA posters and reading about his character, I posted something to the effect of: “Great—another guy with a heart of gold and a shield. I think I’m in trouble.”
Seeing both movies this weekend, methinks…

Keep forgetting about Jeremy Renner. Liked him in The Hurt Locker and The Town. Even my better half is looking forward to this movie…
